About Course

1 in 5 of the UK population has a disability. Many lack confidence with physical activity and are unable to access quality services to build confidence and improve their function. Previous poor experiences in accessing fitness options decreases confidence further and disempowers the individuals to get involved in community sport and fitness, leading to poor general health and day to day ability.

There are many different types of disability-learning, physical and behavioural and therefore becoming confident with this client group without prior experience, training and expert support can feel daunting or potentially costly.

There are increasing societal pressures for ALL services to be fully inclusive, including the fitness sector. Failing to meet these requirements can affect the reputation of your facility and reduce your potential client catchment by 20%, reducing income and revenue options. This population also function best in the middle part of the day, utilising your gym space more productively outside of peak hours.

This workshop provides a taster into the different types of disability and the challenges that can be faced in designing and facilitating inclusive fitness sessions. It will provide a introduction to simple first line solutions to help solve the challenges and leave the attendee feeling more confident to work with a disabled client.
